A Drive Along Oahu’s South Side

One of my favorite things about living in Oahu, is that wherever you go you always feel like you’re on an adventure. I have drove many times around the island and this is one of my favorite routes that features some of my favorite places to hike, eat, and swim.

Ala Moana Beach Park: A nice way to begin your road trip is by grabbing some breakfast & watching sunrise from Ala Moana. It is a free public park located between Waikiki & Downton Honolulu where you will be able to see the sun rise right over Diamond Head.

  1. Hanauma Bay: If you’re visiting Oahu & you didn’t go to Hanauma Bay, where you really in Hawaii? The Bay offers clear blue water with a beautiful marine ecosystem where you are able to snorkel. Hanauma was formed within a volcanic cone and is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island. Make sure to get their early so you can beat the crowd!

  2. Hawaii Kai Shopping Center: One of my favorite shopping centers on the island that has great food & cool stores for you to stock up on sunscreen & water.

  3. Hālona Blowhole: In Hawaiian hālona means "lookout". Which features one of the most popular blowhole’s on the island, created thousands of years ago when molten lava tubes were formed from volcanic eruptions. The Blowhole is located right off of Hanauma Bay at Hālona Point overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

  4. Sandy Beach: One of my favorite beaches on the South Shore, known for its excellent bodyboarding due to its consistent barrels along the beach. Just a heads up, you may be pretty sandy after. (;

  5. Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail: The easternmost point on the island of O’ahu which is in the direction of the Molokai Channel. Making it a great spot to see whales during the winter months. Once you go around the first big bend of the trail you will find telescopes that will allow you to get a closer look at the whales. If you continue all the way to the end of the trail you will end up at the lighthouse. 2.5 Mi. | 647 ft. Elevation | Roundtrip
